Council Consensus To Put Lodging Tax On
November's Ballot
During a study session on June 23, 2009 the Loveland City Council discussed strategies for making a
third attempt at getting voters to pass a lodging tax for Loveland.  While all agreed on the "what" none
appeared to agree on the "why."   Mayor Pielin opposes public input or forums to assist council in
deciding where the new taxes will go.

Councilman Cecil Gutierrez Running For
Mayor
Loveland August 20, 2009
Loveland Councilman Cecil Gutierrez has thrown his hat in the ring to run for Mayor.  He joins three colleagues (Clark,
Skowron & Rousey) who have been battling one another to carry the flag for Loveland's Chamber of Commerce and
certain special interests in East Loveland.  Gutierrez, apart from the other three, is an independent candidate looking to
represent all of Loveland.

September 19, 2009 Forum for Mayoral Candidates
Loveland's five mayoral candidates (David Clark, Alexi Grewal, Cecil
Gutierrez, Glenn Rousey & Walt Skowron
) participated in a forum
sponsored by the Loveland Reporter-Herald Monday night at Loveland’s
Rialto Theater.

The theater was approximately three-quarters full as the five mayoral
candidates responded to questions prepared in advance that asked for
general responses to general questions regarding regional planning,
stimulating growth, downtown revitalization and finally how the city might
change if that candidate is elected mayor.

Four of the five candidates in the race currently serve together on Loveland’
s City Council and referred to one another by first names.  The mood was
polite and the evening felt more like a candidate forum instead of debate as
it was advertized.  The forum picked-up pace when candidates were invited
to address one another directly and ask their fellow candidate a question.

For the first time in a decade the influential McWhinney company has lost its grip on
