The Race For Mayor Click here for an overview of all the City Council candidates

Kenneth Morey
Gene Pielin
Troy Krenning
Mayor's Role "Our City Manager is doing an excellent job. I see the Mayor's role as third Cheerleader for the City." Krenning also stated he would be a "cheerleader" as the Mayor on City Council for Wards 1, 2, 3, and so on.
Mayor's Role "We don't meet during the week, we seldom talk to one another in private." He complained most people in Loveland don't understand how the City Council works. He went on to say he already attends receptions on behalf of the current Mayor.
Mayor's Role Morey explained the history of Loveland's Charter and how the Mayor's position is now elected citywide instead from the council as it was done before the Charter. He also explained that the Mayor has one vote on City Council and conducts the meetings.
Development / Downtown "I am running for Mayor because I don't like the direction our city is going. All three major new car dealerships in Loveland have moved out East..." He talked about the fact he and his wife don't go out as often to the movies since Loveland's only theater was moved "out East." .
What is the role of the Mayor? Morey explained the history of the position and current obligations of the Mayor. Krenning used the term cheerleadr to describe his view of the Mayor's job and Pielin inferred he already does the job of the Mayor when attending certain functions when the Mayor cannot attend. Excerpts of their comments are below.
Do you support campaign finance reform measure 2C which limits contributions to candidates for City Council and the Mayor? Morey stated that he was among the 2,600 Loveland citizens who signed the initiative to place it on the ballot. He also said he had some concerns with the limits. Krenning apparently doesn't understand the initiative since he gave an example that it would limit his contributions to U.S. Senate races. Federal and State races already have contribution limits while Loveland does not. Measure 2C only effects City of Loveland political campaigns. Pielin used this question as another opportunity to belittle residents of Loveland by stating most people who support the initiative probably don't understand it and haven't read it.
Development / Downtown "Let's put some education into it....many new residents in Loveland don't know we have a downtown." "I am tired of it...its easy to say growth is bad but I am proud of the Medical Center of the Rockies."
Development / Downtown "Loveland without a downtown wouldn't be Loveland you could just call it L.A. or something...today I had no particular problem finding a place to park downtown."
Measure 2C - Limiting contributions to Candidates Signed the petition to place measure on the ballot, "I was one of those 2,200 or something people who signed." Expressed concern that Mayor runs citywide but would have the same limits as people running for City Council with the $100 limit per contributor.
Measure 2C - Limiting contributions to Candidates "100 dollars? Who picked that? I think most people haven't read it and don't understand it."
Measure 2C - Limiting contributions to Candidates As a citizen I don't support it since I have given over $100 to candidates for Senate....I don't want to be limited. (NOTE: It doesn't impact contributions to races other than within Loveland)

Questions regarding development and downtown All three candidates expressed both concern and support for improving the businesses in downtown. Pielin appeared to dismiss the idea there are parking problems by saying he parked downtown without a problem the same day as the forum. Both Krenning and Pielin praised the current direction of development in Loveland while Morey expressed concern over the eastside developing too quickly and the impact on the rest of Loveland.
