Mary Bahus-Meyer, candidate for Loveland City Council Ward II, has informed her
supporters she will be dropping out of the race for City Council.  This now makes two
candidates who filed and qualified to run but later decided not to run.  Tony Adams also
dropped out of the City Council race on August 28.

However, in this race, Bahus-Meyer will be leaving just one candidate on the ballot for
Ward II thus eliminating any choice for the voters come November if her campaign
committee fails to appoint a replacement.  Bahus-Meyer and Carol Johnson were the only
two candidates competing to replace Councilman Gene Pielin who decided not to run for
another four-year term as a councilman but instead run for the two-year term as Mayor
against two other candidates.

Information received by LovelandPolitics indicates Mary Bahus-Meyer decided to drop-out
after discussing her candidacy with current Loveland City Councilwoman Jan Brown.
Apparently, Jan Brown’s description of the City Council and duties involved were very
discouraging to Bahus-Meyer.  Ironically, Brown is running for another four year term
despite the gloomy perspective she provided Bahus-Meyer and others about serving on
Loveland’s City Council.

Even though Bahus-Meyer is backing out, a replacement can still be appointed to take her
place on the ballot.  Like Adams, the first three people to have signed Bahus-Meyer’s
petition can appoint a replacement candidate since her candidacy has already been
approved by the Loveland City Clerk and her name, at least for now, should have been on
November’s ballot.  The City Clerk will ask her campaign committee if they wish to
appoint someone else to take her place on the ballot.  If the campaign committee fails to
appoint an alternative candidate to run, Carol Johnson will win in Ward II without a
campaign since she will be unopposed.

Jan Brown’s campaign manager and local real estate agent, Kitty Wild, was reported to
have pressured Tony Adams out of the City Council race.
