Ward 1 candidate Donna Rice has repeatedly told voters along with LovelandPolitics and the Loveland Reporter-Herald that she was motivated to run for Loveland City Council after noticing some contributions from Ft. Collins Councilmembers during Loveland’s municipal election last November. see our story
It is odd than to see she is herself running some kind of city record after reporting today total contributions of $3,899 mostly from outside sources. Rice’s campaign reported raising $2,225 outside Loveland and only $1,624 from contributors inside Loveland. 24 contributions come from cities outside Loveland while only 21 come from sources inside Loveland. One contribution of $250 from a Windsor resident was reported as returned.
For the record, Loveland voters have a good selection of candidates for City Council this time in Ward 1. Donna Rice is articulate, seemingly sincere and certainly no hay seed like the other “old guard” candidates normally propped-up by McWhinney. The other candidates (Rob Molloy, John Case & Adam Koniecki) all have long histories in Loveland and don’t appear to be supported by any organized effort outside Loveland.
Rice also took money from former Ft. Collins Councilman and congressional candidate Diggs Brown. This would also appear contradictory since she has continuously denounced a member of Loveland’s council (not anyone running in this race) for taking a contribution from a member of the Ft. Collins City Council.
Any thoughts to the candidates and their chances or winning?
Who will you be supporting?
I find it very disappointing that Ms. Rice, a candidate for Ward 1, not only complained about sitting council members taking money from outside Loveland; but complained that there was a dark motive by those up north. Ms. Rice warned that we could be taken over by the folks from Fort Collins.
Now I don’t like to criticize, but when someone accuses people of something and then does that same thing, they need to be called out.
Ms. Rice has made it clear more then once that taking money from outside Loveland is something we should fear. If that is the standard, then we should be very frightened of Ms. Rice. She has reported taking contributions from Greeley, that crazy place called Boulder, Windsor, Steamboat Springs, Greenwood Springs, Fort Collins, Cheyenne WY, Clyde Hill WA, and, oh yes, a little from Loveland. She has taken more money from outside Loveland to finance her campaign than inside.
Bringing money in from outside Loveland is not necessarily the issue. What is the issue is for a candidate to try to discredit someone else in the eyes of the public and then go and do the same thing. At best it is being manipulative; at worst it’s being dishonest.
Neither quality is one I want for someone on Loveland’s city council.
As an update to this story, John Case did file his campaign finance report with the Loveland City Clerk yesterday after we published our story.
According to the papers filed by his campaign, Case raised a comparable amount of money as Donna Rice except his contributors were mostly residents of Loveland.
John Case had 60 contributors: 9 from outside Loveland.
There’s nothing more dislikable in my opinion than a hypocrite. That’s the ultimate hallmark of dishonesty. I detest it in anyone, but none moreso than in politicians. I’m ashamed that we have such a blatant case of it in Loveland-in a candidate for Council. If I were among the other candidates I’d definitely call her out on that.
Perfect timing!!! I’m sick of the soap operas on TV, plus this is way more entertaining. Good job on calling her out in the RH today, Joan!!!
She received money from Diggs Brown? Or his bag man and handler, Andrew Boucher?
These are all good reasons why you should support Adam Koniecki for the Council position as he is not beholden to anyone from out of town. Having experienced first hand in the micro-managing anti-capitalist no growthers from my time in Ft.Collins, I can guarantee you that corruption from the left is just as disgusting as the corruption concerning the McWhinneys, don’t throw the baby out with the bath water just to get even when you can elect someone without baggage.
I believe Adam needs a few years to gain some governing experience. He should serve on one of the boards and commissions to broaden his knowledge base.
When he stated his basic rules for governing as:
If it is a tax he votes no, if it increases the size of government he votes no and if it infringes on our liberty he votes no, I wonder where he can vote yes.
When he stated ‘give me a pencil and paper and I will design the park (Mahaffy Park) and I will do it for 100,000’ it shows a lack of understanding of complex issues.
He does however deserve credit for standing tall, not dropping out, and running a good clean campaign. For that he deserves our thanks, our respect and maybe our support in the future.
For me that only leaves two viable candidates. I will choose the one that is working hard to earn the seat. I hope others will do the research and cast their vote for the person that has really earned their vote. Not someone that has simply asked for the vote.
Greg, can you give an example of the “corruption on the left” in Loveland? i.e. who among local elected officials is both “left” and corrupt, and evidence of that?
