Marostica tells constituents that Republicans have been lying about Arveschoug-Bird

“Now, I know Republicans — really get nervous about that because they have been telling that lie for a long time.”

The above comment by State House Republican Don Marostica started his town hall meeting in Loveland last Saturday off on the wrong foot. Often speaking in a scolding voice, Marostica largely blamed TABOR and Colorado Republicans for the state’s current budget mess. Marostica is the lone Republican looking to remove spending limits imposed by Arveschoug-Bird.

Even fellow moderate Republican and former State Senator Steve Johnson is against Marostica’s current efforts. Johnson, now a Larimer County Commissioner, voted in favor of the CCI (lobby organization for Colorado Counties) opposing SB 228. The bill seeks to remove a 6% spending increase cap that Marostica and the Democratic leadership in the State Legislature are seeking to remove to increase state spending.

This guy is a real piece of work, but at least he’s bashing his own party!

  2. Caleb says:

Hah!!!!! It’s about time the party of the rich got trashed by one of their own! And that from a guy who probably made more money off his few years of “government service” than 50 real government employees! Serves ‘em right!

  3. Seth says:

You people are just demonizing Don for doing WHAT WE ALL KNOW has to be done. People are hurting due to the greed on Wall Street and the big banks. People are out of work and can’t find jobs. If we are going to get out of this, government has to step up and make things better for the less fortunate. That may mean you republicans will have to part with a little of your precious dollars, but that’s a small price to pay for a fairer and more decent society. If this republican strays a little from his party’s platform of no taxes for the rich & no jobs for the rest of us —– so what?

  4. Margaret says:

I just can’t believe Rep. Marostica would go against his beliefs so badly. Isn’t he still a Republican?

  5. Jack says:

Who does he think he’s representing, the government or the people?

  6. Robert says:

I’ve been a registered Republican for over 40 years, but he’s enough to make me re-register as an Independent. Disgusting!

  7. Silent Joe says:

I have a question for the supposedly tough guys that run this cracker cheese outfit – why don’t you ask the high and almighty Ken Amundson, who believes the sun rises on his great expanse of backside, why it is his fourth-rate newspaper continues to make excuses for “The Don” Marostica?

  8. Tony says:

That piece of trash (the bill) got passed today. I just wish it were that easy to pass that other piece of trash! Now, me and my type of residents, y’ know- working taxpayers, will have to pay the tabs for more and more things that Marostica & his kind buy for moochers like you, Seth!!!

  9. Administrator says:

OK “Silent Joe”, we will bight.

The Reporter-Herald (we believe) never reported on Marostica’s public meeting from last Saturday. So this appears terrible – it is failing to report an important event (covered across the state) when it happens in their own town.

Our job is very simple. We report the 10% of news that isn’t covered by the Reporter-Herald. They do cover 90% but we pick-up the other 10% so it is on the record.

Don Marostica has contacted the Reporter-Herald publishers directly in the past when he objected to political ads attacking him during an election. He was successful in getting the publishers to impose new rules and procedures for political advertising.

Once the Lehman’s interfered on his behalf, everyone from the reporters to advertising staff became a little more intimidated when reporting news regarding that particular state house member. We were told this first-hand by folks working at the Reporter-Herald (both a reporter and advertising staff person) at the time.

Quite frankly, Mr. Amundson is an important and influential person in Loveland and a serious journalist. He doesn’t need to answer our questions. Now, back to my cheese and crackers!

    Wait… I’m confused…

I thought questioning party leaders and playing by your own rules made you a “maverick”, not a traitor.

  11. Walter says:

    Sarah – Great Question!

McCain was a “maverick” because he campaigned and voted on some issues differently than the majority of his party.

Don Marostica is a traitor because he campaigned as a conservative and votes as a liberal Democrat.

Go read his campaign brochure online at http://donmarostica.com/brochure.php

It says, “Don strongly opposed the 2008 budget which increased spending by 6.7%….” Remember, he wants less government, less taxes and will help fight illegal immigration along with more spending. That was his campaign promise.

Instead, he is trying to remove the 6% spending increase limit (even violating TABOR and the state constitution), voted for HB 1313 to give illegal aliens driver’s licenses (which the Governor vetoed) and is AGAINST his own transparency in spending act which is now being carried by BJ Nikkel.

Even worse, Benedict Marostica’s campaign brochure was titled “A Man of His Word.”

As they say, a liar is worse than a thief. You can lock your door from a thief but not a liar. He fooled many people in the last election but he is unlikely to try it again.

  12. The Real Don says:

Mr. Amundson is an important and influential person in Loveland and a serious journalist.

Piffle. Pah. He’s a clown. A putz. A nudge. A lap dog for Ed Lehman who paid him off by making him the editor of the newspaper. If Ken Amundson had to get a real job in the real world he wouldn’t last a day.

  13. John says:

Am I the only one who caught Marostica’s comment about “the road hogs” when referring to people who want money for roads.

Is he even the same character who for office last year?

  14. The Voice of America says:

The Reporter-Herald has launched a smear campaign against a Conservative by questioning his mental health, without benefit of fact.

I hope Lehman gets sued and financially ruined for this smear campaign, and ends up living in a box under a bridge.

Why don’t YOU self-appointed experts report on this matter? Oh, right: Because Ken Amundson threatened you, and you coward. That’s why.

The Reporter-Herald is a joke. But this blog is a bigger joke.

All of you make me sick.

  15. Walter says:

According to The Coloradoan; Marostica just told Republicans to “Go jump in a lake.”

Marostica gives politicians a bad name!
