Now that State Senator Johnson has been elected to the Larimer County Board of Commissioners, the Republican Party vacancy committee will appoint his replacement to serve out the remaining two-years on his four-year term.
Three people have thrown their hats in the ring for consideration; State House Rep. Kevin Lundberg, Deborah Moeck and Mike Lynch. The three addressed the Monday morning breakfast club started by Bob Schaffer in Ft. Collins on December 15. You can read the story here by clicking here.
Please feel welcome to post any comments about the candidates. If you attended the breakfast meeting, what was your impression of the presentations? Who would you choose?
It is nice to read some candidates are showing decorum for a change. I really don’t buy this Moeck woman’s argument that we need to abandon our beliefs as a party to win elections. At that point what is the point other than to stroke another ego?
It sounds like there’s only one candidate running that’s for letting the taxpayer keep his own money. Lundberg. Those other two sound like typical democrats. That woman, in particular, scares me… “we should trust the legislature”??? I think it was Thomas Jefferson that said, “Whenever the legislature is in session, my money and my liberty are in jeapardy.” Truer words were never spoken.
Well, I just think that experience matters. Rep. Lundberg has been representing this area in the legislature for a long time. I feel that he can be more effective because he knows how things work down there.
I received a letter from the Larimer County Treasurer (Myrna J. Rodenberger) endorsing Michael Lynch. It was written on county stationary and has the initials IJ (the county employee is Irene Josey) who typed the letter at the bottom.
It doesn’t bother me a great deal since I know all the Larimer County resources Lynch and his supporters (Johnson and Rennels) can muster will not defeat Rep. Lundberg.
In the meantime, why can’t these people understand it is improper to use taxpayer money to campaign for any political position? Lynch should consider halting his efforts while the DA investigates the missuse of county resources immediaitely.
If winning more elections for Republicans means acting like Democrats who steal the public’s money for their own gain – I want no part in it! Lynch, Rennels, Johnson and especially Myrna owe taxpayers an explanation and reimbursement of the costs their support of Lynch costs county taxpayers.
The Treasurer is not being entirely honest in her reply. Irene wrote the letter and everyone in the office knows this — Myrna never wrote the letter on her personal time as she stated in your story.
My understanding is that some letters were mailed from the county office directly. When this evidence comes out she might have some more splaining to do.
Kudos to Commissioner elect Tom Donnelly for being the only commissioner not to use his county position for insider party politics. County officials should focus on the county’s budget shortfall and declining resources for law enforcement and not leverage their position to be Republican party power brokers.
There is a legal process for appointing the new state senator and Johnson, Rennels, Marostica and now Myrna need to respect that legal process and stop meddling. They are only hurting Mike Lynch.
Not sure who’s best here…but am disturbed by obvious lack of knowledge and preparation by Lynch and Moeck.
However, I’m appalled by all of their comments on Glade Reservoir. It’s shocking that none of them seem to have even a basic grasp of the issues. Even mention of “eminent domain” is completely irrelevant in the matter… it is not in question or at issue, and suggests a sad lack of understanding of even the basics of the project, the approval process, or any of the potentially important questions. Furthermore, each referred to the “need”… yet none seems to understand that there would be almost no benefit from Glade to those living in their district. It’s about providing water for growth elsewhere and helping build an even bigger tax-funded monster at Northern.
Mr. Lynch’s brother is an Assistant DA in Larimer County.
Maybe he’s the investigator for his brother’s endorsement using county resources. That would be about right. Let me guess the outcome…
DA Lynch is a trigger-happy prosecutor. Convictions come at a high price to those wrongly accused. Why is a dismissal of charges such an utter embarrasment to prosecutors? Arrogance results in cases like Tim Masters.
As an update to this story – Moeck has dropped out of the race and is endorsing Mike Lynch.
The Republican Party vacancy committee meets tomorrow to vote on the replacement for State Senate District 15.
