Loveland - May 5, 2009

After three hours of deliberation Tuesday night the Loveland City Council decided to provide funding for Loveland High School
(LHS) pool renovations but with conditions.  The council voted unanimously to direct staff to prepare an IGA (Inter-Governmental
Agreement) between the Thompson School District and the City of Loveland regarding Loveland's contribution to the LHS
swimming pool renovation project.  The conditions are the following;

1.  The City of Loveland will contribute $1.1 million or 1/3 of the total renovation costs (whichever is less)
2.  Private funds matching the city's proposed contribution must be raised within 24 months of the offer or it will terminate
3.  LHS must make the pool available for public use at times agreeable to the City of Loveland
4.  The School District agrees to work with the city in determining why its costs of renovation are nearly 3 times estimates obtained
to build a new pool.

Loveland City Manager Don Williams was not an advocate of Loveland funding the project and interrupted comments made by
Thompson Board of Education President Bill McCreary.  McCreay told council that Williams had discussed the matter before with
former Thompson School District Superintendt of Schools Dan Johnson.  According to McCreary, the Board of Education
assumed the city had planned to make the contribution since Williams assured Dan Johnson (former Superintendent) Loveland
would pay 1/3 the cost of the pool's renovation.  Williams angrily shot back he had no such conversation and said he would never
commit the city to such an obligation without consulting the city council

Councilwoman Carol Johnson (right) complained the process for other projects has been to not commit any funds until the project
has raised the matching amount from private donations.
