Message From Tom Buchanan
letter to Republican vacancy committee announcing his candidacy
Posted by LovelandPolitics on Aug. 1, 2009

My friends, it is with great pleasure and thoughtful consideration that I am officially
announcing my candidacy to fill the vacancy for Colorado House District 51 due to the
resignation of Representative Marostica on July 24, 2009.

I am honored and humbled by the many friends and elected officials that have encouraged me
to run for this position. Representing House District 51 is not a decision I have taken lightly. It
is an enormous responsibility. It will demand a life style change that my wife Dorié and I are
willing to undergo.

I believe in individual rights, free enterprise and keeping government as small as possible by
ensuring fiscal responsibility in every aspect of government.

We need to send representatives to Denver who understand they are sent there to represent the
constituents of their district. The only special interest that I am beholden to is the most
important one, and that is you, the citizens of House District 51.

I have lived in Loveland for 24 years and have seen the area grow. My wife and I have raised
ten children and truly know about fiscal responsibility.  We are average people enjoying the
fruits of this great state and wonderful nation and want to make sure that our children and
future generations enjoy the same privilege.

In February of this year I was elected as a bonus member for the Larimer County Republican
Party executive board for my third term. My main focus is to maintain the website and edit the
newsletter.

I am the district captain for district 305 and have been a precinct committee person for several
years in the past.

I am currently the commandant of the Loveland Marine Corps League which provides me with
the opportunity for leadership in community activities such as providing the worn flag disposal
bin outside the All Vets Club.

I am a proud member of the Loveland 912 Project. We are committed through our actions and
efforts to defend the Constitution and restore the Republic to its founding principles.

I am an activist in keeping our elected representatives at all levels feet to the fire. I organized
the Loveland Tax Day Tea Party because government spending is out of control. If elected I
will ensure that you have face to face contact with me to make sure that my feet are toasty
warm.

We need to make sure that House District 51 remains in Republican hands for years to come.
I will work tirelessly on your behalf along with other House Republican to maintain the core
principles of the Republican Party and to take back the great state of Colorado. I am asking for
your support in helping me make sure that happens.

Sincerely,

Tom Buchanan
