Alderden Possible Candidate For County Board of Commissioners On the Heene's alleged balloon hoax Alderden commented he has received media inquiries and interview requests from all over the world. "I have 400 unread emails" he told the Republicans assembled for the event.

However, LovelandPolitics has been told Alderden is preparing a run for Larimer Board of County Commissioners in 2010 when
District 1 Commissioner Kathay Rennels will be term limited from seeking re-election.
LovelandPolitics contacted Sheriff Alderden regarding whether the information that he is preparing to run for County Commissioner
is accurate and to request an interview. Alderden responded,
"Running for BBC [sic] is one option I am considering, but I'm also considering other options and opportunities. I
have not formed a committee or filed. I wouldn't want to do an interview until and if I make an announcement."

Alderden would be a formidable candidate as he will have served as the County Sheriff for three successive terms having been
elected to the post three times. Alderden has been an outspoken Sheriff when dealing with the Larimer County Board of
Commissioners especially during budget discussions. Alderden maintains his own website apart from the general county website
where he writes regular commentaries on contemporary issues facing law enforcement and the county. Former County
Commissioner Glenn Gibson publicly ran afoul of the Sheriff in 2007 and later failed to regain a nomination from his own party to
seek re-election.
In 1990 Colorado voters limited state elected officials to two consecutive terms in the same office. By 1994 the limitation was
expanded to also include all county elected officials. In November of 2005 Larimer County voters changed the two-term limit to
three-terms for most county elected positions. Ed Haynes, former Chairman of the Larimer County Republican Party, lead the
campaign to increase the limit to three-terms back in 2005 along with other supporters of Alderden who wanted him to seek a third
term in office.
In 2005, Alderden was quoted as saying he would "retire from law-enforcement" after his third term as Sheriff. People noted this as
different than saying he would leave elected office after his third term in office. LovelandPolitics sources are convinced he will seek
the seat but the Sheriff, for now, is holding his cards close to his chest.
Ft. Collins - Oct 23, 2009
On Friday night the Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden served-up chili
at an annual Republican event with other locally elected public officials.
Alderden later told the crowd he declined invitations to be interviewed by
Good Morning America and other national news shows. He said in one
interview he commented the only show he would go on is the O'Riley
Factor on Fox News with Bill O'Riley. Later the program contacted
Alderden who accepted their invitation. He said being on "The Factor"
and meeting Bill O'Riley was a lifelong dream so it was the only show he
decided to appear on.
Alderden mostly addressed his comments to more serious matters
involving county law enforcement while commenting the balloon hoax was
a "goofy" story that has already received too much media attention.
Alderden made no public comment about his future ambitions for public
office.
